Homegoing of Ernest J. Moen
3/6/08

Reverend Ernest Julien Moen, 75, former Illinois District Superintendent (1984-1996) went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2008, in Sun City West, Arizona.

He was born April 15, 1932, in Clearbrook, MN, the son of James and Georgiana Martha (Rydeen) Moen. He married Gladys DeWald, Oct. 24, 1953, in Fosston, MN.

Bro. Moen earned a degree in theology from North Central Bible College (now known as North Central University) in Minneapolis MN in 1953. Bro. Moen's love for his alma mater was renowned, with him serving on its board for 21 years, 12 years of that time as Chairman (1984-1996). He received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from North Central University in 2003.

His devotion to education also extended to other Assemblies of God colleges, including serving six years on the Board of Trinity Bible College and 11 years on the Evangel College Board. Following his retirement from the Illinois District, he served as President of Western Bible College from 1999-2001.

During his rich ministry, Bro. Moen pastored several Assemblies of God churches: Glenwood MN, Menomonee WI, Willmar MN, Phoenix AZ, and Rockford IL (1974-1984). Following his relocation to Arizona, he served as interim minister at Bismarck Evangel in North Dakota in 1996 and in Rochester, MN from 1997 to 1999.

His service on a District level led him to serve as youth director for the Wisconsin-No. Michigan Assemblies of God (1960-1963) and Illinois District Superintendent in Carlinville, IL (1984-1996).

After retiring to Arizona, Bro. Moen especially enjoyed his frequent speaking engagements, which allowed him to participate in his greatest passion, preaching. It was a joy for him to have the Pentecostal Chair of Preaching at North Central University named after him in 2002. In his career, Bro. Moen preached in more than 50 countries around the world.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Moen, of Sun City West, Ariz.; two daughters, Judith Ann Moen Stanley of Atlanta, Ga. and Jacqulyn Renee Moen of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Phillip and Greta Modesitt and Carter and Olivia Evans.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at First Assembly of God Church, 5950 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, with Rev. Richard Dresselhaus of San Diego, Calif. and Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt, lead pastor at First Assembly co-officiating. Viewing will be at the church from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.

Memorials may be made to Chair of Pentecostal Preaching, North Central University, 910 Elliott Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55404.
